Quartz vs Granite for Bethesda Kitchens

Quartz vs Granite

Quartz needs no sealing and resists stains. Granite is natural stone that handles heat better but needs periodic sealing. Per Houzz's 2026 study, engineered quartz remains the top main countertop choice. Counter installation is part of our full kitchen remodel.

Is Quartz on the Decline?

Health concerns about silica dust from cutting engineered stone have led to new rules for fabricators in some places. Examples include Australia's ban on engineered stone and California workplace rules. This is a fabrication-shop issue. It is not a hazard from installed counters.

Do Home Buyers Prefer Granite or Quartz?

Buyers care more about condition than material. We will add Houzz 2026 countertop data here once verified.

Care and Cleaning

Use mild soap and water. Avoid harsh chemicals on quartz. Reseal granite as its installer advises.

Other Countertops Worth Considering

Three main alternatives:

  • Quartzite: natural, hard, and often pricey.
  • Marble: classic look, but stains and etches.
  • Wood: island tops with wood rose to 39% in Houzz's 2026 study.
